I teach required design studios for the MUP and EMUP programs at USC, as well as an elective series of design labs for MUP students. In addition, I am also a frequent guest critic for other USC studios’ final project reviews.
I taught a section of this introductory urban design course to Master of Planning students in Spring 2022. The course focused on laying the foundation of urban design principals and tasked students to critique housing projects across Los Angeles.
I gave a 1.5 hour crash course in "graphic design for urban planners" for APA Los Angeles's Young and Emerging Planners Committee. The presentation covered how graphic design is crucial to the planning profession, an overview of various graphic design software, and tips all planners should know when creating graphics for projects. The session was approved for 1.5 hours of AICP CM credit.
I teach this pair of for-credit studio courses to Executive Master of Planning (EMUP) students at USC. The classes are structured as intensive design charrettes, including guided site visits, with a focus on developing an understanding of design principles. In the first course students select developments and critique their designs. In the second course students develop designs for vacant parcels.
